Following the Supreme Court Ruling on the definition of a woman, in relation to the Equality Act 2010, the EHRC - Equalities and Human Rights Commission - issued some interim guidance that has since been removed. This interim guidance created some confusion, which has been damaging. We are now waiting to see what will happen with the proposed Code of Practice, issued by the EHRC, which is with the Equalities Minister. This Code of Practice will either be passed into law; be sent back for updates if it’s not felt to be legal; or be debated in parliament. Margate Pride is advocating and lobbying for a full and proper parliamentary debate on this vital issue, as we are gravely concerned about the devastating impact it could have on our communities.
