NOV 15TH / @margateartsclub / 6PM-9PM
To kick start our PUSHIN FOR CHANGE project, we’re starting with a monthly movie night. Each month we’ll collaborate with a different person/group/organisation in the hopes to raise awareness, spark conversations on different issues, and fundraise whilst doing it!
This month we’ve collaborated with @freshasadaiz – Queer Skate Thanet, to spread awareness on the transphobic issues faced within sports and to promote LGBT+ inclusion with the skate community ! 🫶🏽
We will be showing “Leo Baker – Stay on board”
– Follows celebrated competitive skating icon Leo Baker as they try to make space for themselves in the gendered world of pro sports and build a more inclusive skate culture, which leads them to doing the punkest thing imaginable.
FUNDS WILL GO TO –
Mermaids – Supporting trans, non-binary and gender-diverse children, young people and their families since 1995
And
Bun Hate Let’s Skate – A local community-based charity doing work with and for the skaters of Thanet.
SOME WORDS FROM QUEER SKATE THANET
It means a lot to be able to share this documentary with the local scene. When I moved back from London it was very evident that there was a lot of work to be done within the skate scene here around inclusion, especially regarding LGBT+ people. Hopefully this movie night will help bridge the gap between the skate and the queer communities in Thanet ❤️
